A consumer/commercial device manufacturer required an LCD and touch panel user interface. To deliver the very best user experience to their customers, an optically robust mobile phone sized LCD solution coupled to a custom designed projected capacitive touch panel solution was required.
The solution needed to balance optical features, competitive price points and long availability. It needed to meet an aesthetic requirement and a great user experience thru a touch panel interface.
Design and Fabrication That Performs.
One of the biggest challenges was how to support an LCD module, originally designed for consumer cell phone markets into an OEM project that requires customization, longevity, and great on-going support. Such an LCD module hadn’t been typically chosen by a general OEM customer primarily due to its short and volatile availability and the rigidness in its design.
Our customer also required an interface to the LCD that was not commonly found in this category of products. Monumental challenges!
Another challenge was the design of a touch sensor and oversized touch panel cover lens that was consistent in its quality standards, durable as a user interface and delivered the expected user experience for their customers.
First we started with the critical component, the LCD. Our E3D Engineering team collaborated with a number of LCD manufacturers in Asia to “industrialize” a mobile LCD platform that would meet the noted objectives. The result is a mobile sized, high resolution, high brightness and contrast display with a custom mechanical and electrical interface. To address the longevity concerns of such platforms, we triple sourced and qualified the most crucial sub-component in an LCD module, the LCD cell itself and built LCD modules under our tight quality standards in Asia. To support the user interface requirements, our team collaborated with the customer on best material and design elements to create a touch panel design that meets all objectives and is optically bonded to our LCD solution.
Through great collaboration with our customer, market and technology knowledge we helped them develop a strategy and executed to perfection. We made it simple for this customer to launch not only this project but a number of other similar projects as well with display and touch interfaces. Our customer success means our success, which is why we have been able to establish and maintain multiple long-lasting relationships within the consumer industry.
